SEAL’d Heart

(11 customer reviews)

Fate is twisted, and karma’s a bitch. Maybe destiny will give us a second chance.

I’ve been best friends with Skye since we were ten years old. She was my life. We did nearly everything together.

Until graduation night. The night I f’cked it all up.

Escaping to the Navy, I found a new home with the SEALs. Then tragedy struck, and I lost it all, again.

Now I find myself face-to-face with the woman I’ve tried so hard to forget. But it seems I’ve made it impossible for her to stop thinking about me. I left a brown-haired, brown-eyed reminder.

Her secret. My son.

A powerful reminder of how love can overcome all. A reminder that I have someone who needs me. Almost as much as I need him. And Skye.

I won’t give up. This time I’ll give it all I’ve got. I’ll protect my new family as fiercely as I protected my country.

I just didn’t realize I needed to protect them from me.

I tucked some loose hair behind my ear. Jake’s eyes followed, his gaze as real on my skin as fingertips. My fingers shook, and I quickly dropped my hand to my side. I couldn’t stop my eyes, though, from making their way to Jake’s. He stared back at me, pupils dilating as if he was in a trance.

As if a hand was on my back, I leaned toward him. He leaned toward me too.

There was no room inside of me for thoughts. I was nothing but emotions. Pain. Need. Relief. I probably wouldn’t be able to unpack all the feelings, even if I spent the rest of my life trying.

Jake’s lips parted as if in slow motion. “Skye,” he whispered. There was an edge to his voice, making it sound like he was about to chastise me. Maybe chastise himself.

He didn’t have the chance.

Our lips crashed together, and the years melted away as Jake’s hands went to the sides of my head, and his lips swept across mine. Our lips were a perfect fit, locking together as if they’d been designed for each other.

This was it. I remembered this.

It was a feeling of coming home, of finally finding something you didn’t even know you were searching for. I would have cried with relief had I been able to do anything but kiss him. Hold him. The way I’d been longing to do for so many years.

    Heartache, humor, and redemption… I loved it…5+stars!

Seal’d Heart is the story of second chances that had my heart aching for Skye and Jake.

Childhood friends, Jake, Skye, and Trey were very close friends up until the end of high school when tragedy pulls all of them apart. Death, survivor’s guilt, heartache, a secret baby and then six years of separation with Jake and Skye dealing with their kind of mental anguish over what’s happened in the past.

I won’t rehash the plot, because it’s been reviewed quite thoroughly, but know, that just when I read a book by Alice Ward, I’m thinking it’s her best work. Then, she writes another, and I’m literally blown away because the story is engrossing, has great characters that pull at your heartstrings, and it’s intensely emotional.

Seal’d Heart has a wonderful plot that is filled with intense emotion, humor, forgiveness and redemption. I love the epilogue that just brings everything full circle, and gives you an euphoric and satisfying ending for Jake and Skye. Well done, Ms. Ward.

I received and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

OMG! I absolutely loved this book! I have to warn you, though, you must have tissues. I literally balled through parts of this book. It touched me in so many ways. The kid kept me in stitches. He was so wise for his age but the things he says! This story is connected to Ms Ward’s The Beasts of Baseball but it is a standalone. I’m not going to give anything away because you can read the synopsis and get an idea of the story line.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I have read several of Alice Ward books. I just love them and this book did not disappoint. This book is a second chance love story with HEA ending. Lots of surprises in this book that keep you turning the pages and not wanting the story to end. Loved Jake and Skye’s story. Hoping we get Cadence’s story too!!!

Absolutely loved this story. One minute you’re crying, the next laughing. So emotional. Jake and Skye were best friends as kids growing up and run into each other a few years later and try to overcome their past. Truly a great story.

Awesome book. This was well put together, no loose ends and an overall good story. I don’t usually like books that flash back and forth but this was perfectly done and made the story. (And it wasn’t hard to figure out who was talking/acting and when). I wasn’t sure I was going to like the hero (especially early on) but he had reasons for why he was the way he was. It took the heroine to show him the way and of course there was a secret baby (I generally like Secret Babies but usually hate the father — as in where was he when he was needed). This book showed the path from heartache and sadness to HEA. A Winner! Of course no cliffhanger (thank goodness) and a very satisfying HEA.

I am completely in love with this story. This is by far the best one I have read from Alice Ward yet. 5 stars are not enough. Skye and Jake started out as friends and as their relationship grew closer, they both realized they loved each other. Their one night of passion ends with tragedy. Enough tragedy that they move on with their lives never to see each other again. It took one chance meeting at a baseball game to reunite the two. But will the child he knew nothing about, the PTSD that he brought back from the war, the billionaire playboy headlines or the responsibility of the death of their friend keep them apart.? Will they get their happily ever after? I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

This book is heartbreakingly beautiful. Normally, I’m not a big fan of second chance romances, but I loved this. It’s a second chance romance with a friends to lovers twist. My emotions were going on a roller coaster ride, but that’s how I like my books. I want to feel something and with “Seal’d Heart,” I felt it all. Happy, laugh out loud moments, heart breaking moments, and sometimes even anger. We see flash backs along with the present day. It’s fitting for this story. Jake is our hero and he holds a lot of guilt and pain from his past. He ends up joining the Navy in hopes of becoming a better man. Skye was his best friend, along with a guy named, Trey. They were all the best of friends until one night, which in turn, causes a tragic accident. Fast forward six years and Skye & Jake are reunited when Jake finds a little boy named Jagger, lost in a crowd. He then helps him try to find his parents. When he does find his mom, it just so happens to be Skye. After looking closer, he notices the resemblance between the boy and himself. He never knew he had a son until that moment. But Skye and Jake have a lot to overcome and live with the consequences of their past. Can they move forward together or will they stay in the past? Read it to find out, but just fair warning, you may need tissues.

This is a really good book. The friendship between the characters is great and also sad that they let it rule them. Jake and Skye have to go through a lot to get to their HEA. Keep a box of Kleenex close by. Oh and little Jag will make your heart go pitter patter He’s adorable.

Jagger is my new favorite 5 year old! He is such an adorable character with an amazing vocabulary. He is definitely the much needed balance through an emotional charged story.

The past lives of Jake, a SEAL and Skye, the single mother and psychology student are riddled with guilt, remorse and sadness. But, when they reconnect six years later and Jake finds out he has a son with the one woman he has always loved, hope filters in past the despair .

The elements of grief and PTSD play integral part in this story and are handled with care and respect.

This is a beautiful story that lifts you up with its HEA.

I feel completely bereft now that it’s over. I also feel a little dizzy. This book took me though such emotional highs and devastating lows, I might be a little numb for the next several hours as my brain and heart settle out. Skye and Jake drove me more than a little batty when they would come so close to getting it right then one of them would stumble and the whole relationship would come crashing down again. I broke my heart watching their hearts break over and over. This book wouldn’t have been the same without Jagger. That precocious 5 year old provided most of the zany comic relief that kept the heaviest emotional moments from being unbearable. And I was so grateful for those moments even though I’m not so sure the people around me appreciated their genuine laugh-out-loud nature as much as I did. I also really enjoyed that this tied in to the Beasts of Baseball series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
