The Hunt

(16 customer reviews)

When I began the hunt, I didn’t know I’d find her.

Confined to a hospital with a rare chromosomal disorder, my little brother began sending me on scavenger hunts to uncover the world for him when we were kids.

When one of his quests brings me to a greasy Connecticut diner, my life is completely altered. Caitlyn, the gorgeous prince-slaying waitress, turns down my indecent proposal and ignites my need to conquer her at all costs.

With a reputation for being a ruthless billionaire womanizer, I can’t fault her assumptions. But now I’m on my own quest… to tame my unbridled passions long enough to get this little waitress, artist, and humanitarian into my bed.

As I lay bare my soul to capture her heart, I wonder…am I bringing the world to my brother or is he giving life to me?

It felt like a dream as he stepped into the shower with me. Here we were smiling, and it felt so natural. So right.

Things changed as the shower curtain closed, and we were secluded into the small space.

“Hi,” he said and pushed my wet hair back from my face.

One of the pieces of my shattered heart reconnected. “Hi.”

Then he kissed me, and the world righted itself.

“Do you have any idea what you do to me?” he murmured against my lips. “How beautiful you are? So sweet?”
“I feel that way with you.”

He smiled and reached for my favorite bar of soap, trying to take it from his hands.

“Can I do that?” I asked.

His eyes fell to my breasts. “I’d rather do it for you,” he said sweetly.

I reached out a hand and touched his chest, his stomach. “I think I’ll feel better if I start.”

He handed the soap to me. “You have all the power tonight.”

I grinned. “I like the sound of that. Turn around.

    I ugly cried…..this was sooo good 5+stars!!

The Hunt was an amazing story and it is one I won’t soon forget. I loved everything about it, the plot, the dynamic cast of characters, the emotional depth, and dialogue is absolutely irresistible in this well written, poignant and heartwarming story.

I won’t rehash the story because it has been reviewed quite well. But while reading, my heart went out to both KP and Caitlyn. It was hard reading about the tragic event in Caitlyn’s young life, as well as, the childhood upbringing and disconnected family life of KP and his brother, Wenton. Loved Caitlyn’s awesome granny who raised her, she was such a feisty and quirky character who brought so much personality to the story. Wenton was a dynamic young man with such exuberance for life but was on borrowed time. Both brought a lot of love and laughter. KP showed Caitlyn he was more than an arrogant man, but one with a heart of gold, a man Caitlyn could love. The loss of family for Caitlyn and KP is heartbreaking, but their relationship blossomed because of Granny and Wenton, and they supported each other through a trying time.

I loved the premise behind “The Hunt”. KP faced each challenge and learned how to live while he gifted those things he found in the scavenger hunt so Wenton could experience life his way.. Ms Ward has written an amazing story filled with emotional depth, humor and beautiful characterization. You won’t want to miss this one.

I received and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was such an emotional book. It’s not a normal billionaire romance story. This touched me in so many ways. Caitlyn (the heroine) is strong and brave and she doesn’t fall for the normal tricks that KP (the hero) tries to pull. There are some chuckle inducing parts to the story but I don’t want to give anything away. You have romance, heat, angst, and a HEA. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.

  3. Linda Brown

My absolute favorite of the dozen plus Alice Ward novels I’ve read, this one has so much heart, which will bring tears (just a warning), along with a passionate romance between a waitress and a wealthy man who can have just about anything his heart desires EXCEPT a healthy brother. This is the novel that cemented my Alice Ward fandom!

Such a great story! So loving and sweet and sassy and sad all in one! Loved the characters. KJ was a piece of work at first, but really changed so much when he met Caitlyn. Her grandmother and his brother were really great supporting characters. It was what made KJ and Caitlyn so great together as well.

Heart-warming and captivating story of family and romance!!

Playing scavenger hunt for his disabled brother, KP accepts challenges and send photos of the results. The latest challenge takes him to a diner where a waitress completely blows him off. Caitlyn is an artist, who works with troubled kids, and also takes shifts at the diner to earn extra money for her gran’s medical bills. When a pompous customer leaves a $15,000 tip, she splits it with all working there that evening rather than just keep it for herself..

Thus begins a new hunt. KP doesn’t take no for an answer. KP is no ordinary millionaire. The courting of Caitlyn is highly entertaining and heart-warming. As we begin to understand these characters and are carefully drawn into their worlds and struggles we are left with some laughs, some cries and a completely enchanting read!!

This was my first Alice Ward story – but definitely will not be my last.

Another 5 stars for Alice Ward. There was love and loss and two people coming together and learning to love each other. Both Caitlyn and KP came from troubled childhoods and neither was looking for love but they found it. Caitlyn’s grandmother was amazing and KP’s brother was lovely. Wenton (KP’s brother) is hospitalized so KP goes out and “sees” the world for him. Wenton sends him on scavenger hunts and thus the title but also how KP and Caitlyn meet. Fun when a stuck up, womanizing, temperamental man tries to catch a practical, down to earth woman. Great story of people changing and growing and falling in love. (I voluntarily read an ARC for my honest opinion).

DO NOT read this book without a box of Kleenex, it killed me at least three times!! This was such an emotional journey of letting go of your past and opening your heart to finding true love. KP was emotionally distant, using sex to pass the time and never making any connection to anything but his money. Caitlyn has lived in the shadows of an abusive childhood, never knowing love from anyone but her grandmother. When these two meet as part of a treasure hunt that KP and his ill brother have set up since they were young, sparks fly, but are they more in terms of annoyance or is this the start of something more? When tragedy strikes on both sides, it is their true emotional ties to each other that make the hard times a little more bearable. This book had my emotions running – from heart wrenching sobs, to laughter, to just a sense of peace. I have never read a book that touched me in such a way. This book is one that should not be missed. 5 stars are not enough!!

  8. Keri Loves Books (Keri Roth)

    Such a beautiful story!

Caitlyn is struggling to get her life in track. Working multiple jobs to be able to go to art school. She lives with Eula, her loving and spunky grandma who raised her. She lived through a tragic experience that left her in her grandma’s care. This start in life left her guarded. But she has great friends and strong morals and lives a life where she gives back to others.

One night, while working at the local diner, in walks KP. It’s obvious to her that he comes from money and is from out-of-town. KP is used to getting everything he wants and acts like it too. He propositions Caitlyn and she shuts him down hard.

KP doesn’t deal well with NO. He devises a plan to get Caitlyn to become his friend. This is a story if two people finding one another. At first they are enemies, then they become friends and then more. Both of their lives monumentally change because of the other.

This story is sweet, sad at times but also makes you smile. Its beautiful depiction of life; the good and the bad. Get the kleenex and enjoy this gem!

I love Alice Ward’s writing style and especially books that makes me feel something. This book definitely makes you feel things and puts your emotions all over the place and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Very well written & would definitely recommend this book to others!

  10. Rita

Oh my goodness this is one of Alice’s best books ever! Just make sure you have a whole box of Kleenex with you. This book will warm and break your heart. It is so worth the read and the tears. I just can’t say enough about.

I had asked for an advance reader copy, so I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to get. I got more than I could hope for. What a wonderful story of the eternal circle of life. When a door closes, a window opens. A very poignant, heartfelt novel filled with laughter and tears. (for me). Keep the tissues ready for this well written roller coaster ride of emotions. KP, the arrogant, rich jerk with the annoying sense of entitlement is not altogether what he seems – good thing. Caitlyn, an artist/waitress with a horrendous childhood event shadowing her life. Throw in a younger brother with a quirky game and things get interesting….

  12. Kari

KP is the billionaire Oscar winning producer who has been sent on a scavenger hunt by this brother Wenton. He suffers from a rare chromosomal disorder that has him confined to a hospital and that is how KP ends up in diner in Connecticut.

Caitlyn is a waitress in the diner and is less than impressed by his womanizing homes and turns him down flat and splits his $15,000 tip with her co-workers. In addition to a waitress she is an accomplished artist who teaches art classes at a youth center and is trying to handle a trauma in her own life so she has no interest in wasting any time on this jerk.

KP is shot down by Caitlyn two more times before he realized that his wealth isn’t going to sway her but will she be willing to give him another chance?

I liked how KP changed into a much better man over as the book progressed and Caitlyn just takes whatever life throws at her and soldiers on. This is a great example of it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor everyone experiences tragedies in their life.

First a warning, keep the tissues handy because you’re going to need them. The emotional undertow is deep and it is strong. This book takes on some really big subjects: love, loss, life, death, second chances, redemption. And they’re all handled with such a deft touch that you really don’t realize just how deep the subject matter is until you’re in over your head. I really appreciated the moments of humor. They gave me a chance to catch my breath between bouts of crying my eyes out. I loved the lengths Caitlyn and Wenton make KP go to in order to redeem him. KP starts the book as a prime jerk, but it’s almost okay because Caitlyn’s a bit of a raving witch at the beginning so they both have growing to do. The loss of some very important people from their lives is very difficult to experience, for the characters and for the reader. And that connection makes it easier to move past all the defenses and bad personal history to be able to fall in love. By the end I don’t know if I loved KP or Caitlyn more.

What an amazing, powerful and emotionally charged story! This is a beautiful story that illuminates the power and treasure of pure love.

KP and Caitlyn’s journey together is enriched by those closest to them. KP’s brother, Wenton is an absolute precious sole who has a greater understanding about life than KP. Wenton’s brillant idea to send KP out on scavenger hunts leads KP to cross paths with Caitlyn. Caitlyn’s grandmother is a lively character full of life and spunk. It is from her grandmother that Caitlyn draws her strength and courage to give KP a chance in her life. Little did they know but, that hunt changed the game for them both. It makes KP vulnerable for the first time and Caitlyn opens up her heart to trust the reformed man.

Even though there is so much sadness and loss (have the tissues ready) in KP and Caitlyn’s lives they learn to open up their hearts to each other to a much deseved happily ever after.

Wow defiantly a different kind of read then i was normally use to reading. The excitement from the scavenger hunt mixed with the emotional roller coaster of Caitlyn’s past is just a wow hard to take in kind of read. Caitlyn’s grandma was amazing in the story and i loved reading about her. KPs brother sometimes i wanted to jump through the book and kind of shake him. KP was a great character. I just love the turns this book take and at the end when you finish the only thing that comes to my mind right away is wow this just kind of knocked the wind out of me kind of read!!!
